Daniel Naroditsky Cause of Death: Medical Examiner Reveals Findings in Chess Grandmaster’s Death at 29

Daniel Naroditsky, the American chess grandmaster, educator and online streamer who inspired players around the world, died on October 19, 2025, at the age of 29. A medical examiner’s report released in January 2026 identified his probable cause of death as cardiac arrhythmia associated with an underlying disease, with drugs in his system listed as contributing factors.

According to reporting on the Mecklenburg County medical examiner’s findings, Naroditsky’s death was ruled an accident. The report identified systemic sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that can affect multiple organs, as an underlying condition associated with the suspected fatal heart rhythm disturbance. Methamphetamine, amphetamine and compounds associated with kratom were also detected. The report described the substance levels as non-lethal, rather than identifying a fatal overdose as the cause of death.

What the Medical Examiner Reported

Cardiac arrhythmia refers to an abnormal heartbeat that can interfere with the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively. The medical examiner’s findings indicated that Naroditsky probably died from this condition in connection with systemic sarcoidosis.

The report also identified substances in his system as contributing factors. However, the findings did not establish that a drug overdose directly caused his death. The official manner of death was classified as accidental.
